Who is behind Maison 16?

Behind Maison 16, you'll find César (aka 16 or Cés’), the founder, and Thomas, who has been an employee since 2021. Together, they handle the plant harvesting and share all the stages of the business: liqueur production, bottling, shipping, business development, and communication.

Mucho, our loyal four-legged partner, has been with us since the beginning of the adventure. Always ready for a harvesting trip, it's rumored that he even knows all our secret recipes!

Our Story

César dirigeant de la société Maison16, cueillette de serpolet

The adventure began a few years ago, in the heart of the Loire region, in the mind of César Triouleyre, the founder...

Born into a family of entrepreneurs and artisans of fine food, he had this crazy desire to create a project with his own hands, to design organic and artisanal products.

Over the years, he developed his liqueur-making expertise and highlighted his Ligérian region.

The independent liqueur producer MAISON 16 was founded in the family garage in 2019. The first organic liqueurs, made from aromatic plants gathered from the wild. Natural and quality beverages: Sapinette, Serpolette, Fleurette, Gin Boréal, Papastis and Grande Sapinette.

The company is growing, and today we have moved to our new premises in Saint Marcellin en Forez. Our new address is: 25 rue de l'étang, 42680 Saint Marcellin en Forez

For our MAISON 16 range, harvesting is carried out locally by hand. It takes place on family forest plots in Haute Loire. We also have partnerships with herbalist gatherers and the French National Forest Office in the communes of Valcivières (63) and Saint Marcellin en Forez (42).

This project enhances the natural resources of our region, as part of an environmental and sustainable approach.

In keeping with these values, all our products are always made without artificial ingredients, without colorants and without preservatives.

Maison 16 embarks on its adventure with the launch of our first liqueur: Sapinette, made from fir needles and buds.

Then, in spring 2020, we developed a brand new liqueur based on wild thyme, Serpolette.

In 2022, we are expanding our range of liqueurs with Fleurette, a delight made from flowers from our region: meadowsweet and elderflower offer complementary flavors with exotic notes of lychee.

That same year, other products were created, with the realization of a new project: the launch of an organic spirits range, still based on wild harvesting. Again with the enhancement of the territory and its resources in mind, César wants to create unique drinks, in limited and vintage editions.

Three new products are then developed: the Grande Sapinette (aged 12 months in ex-Cognac barrels and reduced to 45%), the Gin Boréal (distilled with fir essences from Forez) and the Papastis (a traditional anise-flavored spirit enhanced with wild fennel).

This project allowed us to work in collaboration with several stakeholders: distillery, pickers, producers, graphic designers, etc. Our gin and aniseed liqueur are distilled in a copper still by our artisan friend Florent Vilisque, from the L'Eau des Vivants Distillery in Beaujolais (69).

The new labels were created in limited series by the painter and graphic designer Romain Render, abstractly and artistically illustrating our products, as a nod to nature, wild and free!

LOCA, it's over! But we bounced back well!

2024 has been an eventful year for our LOCA liqueur range. After some challenges, we had to start from scratch.

A new name

For this new collection, we chose a name that reflects our attachment to our region and our local roots: Distillerie de la Loire. This name embodies our artisanal know-how and our desire to promote local products.

Why this change?

A few months ago, we discovered that a fellow beverage producer in the south of France had registered a brand name similar to ours, "LOCA". Their trademark had been registered two weeks before ours, two years ago. Faced with this situation, we had to abandon the LOCA brand and reinvent our collection.

An opportunity to innovate!

Rather than seeing this as a constraint, we seized the opportunity to listen to your feedback, review our range, and create something new and even more delicious.
